For example, the consistency of say blue color in an hp printer ink is substantially different from a blue color printer ink of a different company. So if you are not using them, then chances for mixing of colors heighten. This happens because an incompatible ink inside a printer cartridge will seep out and pass on up till the printer head, even when it is at rest. And by the time it gets to printing, even though the command would be of another color, the seeped color will come out first, all mixed up.
